Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP).
All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following items with the Manager:
- Two plastic slides were hooked on the playground chain link fence. LO discussed about not using the slide for sliding purposes. Play structures must be installed and used properly as per manufacturers' instructions to ensure safety.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following items with the Manager:
- Cleaning supplies for sanitizing surfaces, i.e. snack table were stored inside of the main building. These items should be readily available to the staff within the playground space, so that high touched/ shared spaces can be sanitized before and after each use.
- Hand hygiene: warm running water and soap should be available for proper hand washing for the children/staff. Currently hand sanitizer is available and used when children/staff are outside (playground).
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children are staff and children practice proper cleaning/hand hygiene at all times.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 22 children and 8 staff present. The Manager was on site and assisted with today's inspection.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to Licensing; LO will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Toolis completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report via email.
