Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10060 - CCLR s.11(3) - When advertising or otherwise offering services to the public, a licensee must identify the care program being offered.
Observation: During the inspection, licensing observed the use of "preschool" verbiage in the polices and procedures, the schedule posted on the wall, and included in at least one parent agreement.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to clearly identify the care program being offered.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing observed a plug cables, and an electrical extension block with exposed outlet accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: DLSOP Safe Play Space – There is no system to document regular checks of the outdoor play area had been completed over the past year. This was discussed and reviewed at the last routine inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please create a system for checking the outdoor play areas as set out in the DLSOP Safe Play Space.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: Written agreements for transportation to school and field trips by private vehicle were included in the parent registration package, however a transportation policy was not included in the policies and procedures. Staff said that they had no knowledge of any children being transported in vehicles.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to include a transportation policy based on the section 45 are included in the policies, which are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

Summary of Inspection:
· During today’s inspection, there were 9 children, and 2 staff present.
· At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
· Outdoor play use of space for GCC(30m-SAC) was discussed and reviewed.
· Reviewed and discussed the routine for GCC(30m-SAC) program with staff.
· Provided education around development of care plans.
