Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), The Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation: Licensing observed one of the staff certificates was not posted in the facility
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff certificates are posted in a prominent place

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: The staff records were reviewed. One staff record did not have a site specific criminal record check
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure staff records are current and complete

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Licensing observed emergency medication is required for a child in care. There were no written directions from parents or on a care plan regarding the administration of medication.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care plan and a medical authorization form is signed prior to application of an emergency medication.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: The facility provides snack to the children in care. A menu was not observed in the facility
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure parents are provided information on the food and drink that is given to the children.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 30, 2024 there were 3 children, 1 staff and the Manager was present during the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by February 14, 2024 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of the inspection the Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the Manager.

The following was discussed with the Manager:

-Reportable incident reporting
-Lead in the water prevention strategies
-Items in the first aid kit with a drug identification number or a natural product number require written permission from a parent or guardian prior to application
-The cleaning protocols that are in place for the facility
-Written permission from a parent or guardian is required prior to applying diaper cream and sunscreen
-Removing a small propane stove. This was completed during the inspection.
-Placing a sign on the back gate to remind families to close the gate
