Introduction

An scheduled follow up inspection to the Routine Inspection #AFUN-AYBN54 dated April 27, 2018 was conducted. Areas of non-compliance identified at the Routine Inspection were reviewed for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR # have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11180 - CCLR s.16(4)(a) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.
Observation: Equipment identified as damaged has been removed from the facility. The Manager was able to provide email orders of new equipment that was ordered. This equipment has yet to arrive and it appears that the ordered equipment is designated for outdoor use. The Manager relayed that she will be completing an inventory of the indoor equipment and ordering more play equipment for indoor purposes and that she would inform the LO of an arrival date in the near future.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the children in care have assess to suitable and age appropriate toys and equipment.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Uneven surface on the toddler play yard has yet to be addressed. The Manager relayed that this time frame would be confirmed within the next two weeks. Discussion occurred surrounding that if the play yard was going to have any structural changes the Manager would get Licensing approval before work begins. Any work would take place before or after operating hours.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure equipment and play areas are free from hazards and in good repair.

STAFFING: 12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation: Staff attempted to open the lock on the second emergency gate of the play yard during the inspection as per the LO request. The lock was not successfully unlocked and staff support was utilized to succeed in unlocking the lock. The Manager will continue having all of the staff practice unlocking the lock on the emergency gate until this can be unlocked quickly to be effective in the event of an emergency.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff are trained in the implementation of a fire drill system including the equipment noted in that system.

Comments

The Manager and Academics Corporate Administrator were in attendance for today's follow-up inspection.
Six staff files were reviewed and all items have been corrected. CRC sharing forms are being processed for all staff to ensure facility specific and should arrive within 3 weeks.
A contractor has been hired to address some areas of concern on the play yard for Maintenance and upgrade.
A log for Maintenance has been developed and will be reviewed during follow up inspections to ensure it is effective.
Outdoor Program plans have been developed to ensure the children are actively engaging on gross motor experience while outdoors.
An Amendment to the facility License was shared with the LO and will be processed in the near future.
The children were observed engaged in free play, planned outdoor experiences, and circle time during today's inspection.
