Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Two staff did not have site specific Criminal Record Checks and one did not have a CRC completed through the CRRP in Victoria.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that staff files are complete as per the legislation.

Comments

At this inspection there were 15 children, 3 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection, the above contravention was identified. The Manager will send Licensing a written response addressing the contravention and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed/reviewed with the Manager:
· Ensuring there is adequate supplies of food and water for 72 hours in the event of an emergency, for all staff and children
· Criminal Records Checks must be obtained from the Criminal Records Review Program in Victoria - existing CRCs may be shared with an organization using the sharing program

The contents of this report was discussed with the Manager and a copy was emailed on Feb. 3, 2022. This report was written off-site at the Tri-Cities Health Protection office and time spent includes report writing.
