Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: During inspection, of 3 staff files reviewed, 3 files did not contain record of early childhood educator certificate verification.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure licensee does not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2, which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood registry.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 13 children, and 2 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Facility was undergoing painting, one coat had be done, and they were expecting another coat to be completed in the next few weeks. While this was occurring, items were stored in the nap room. The facility licence and employee certifications were removed from the wall, however they were available to review at licensing request. It was discussed that licensing should be informed when areas of use are not able to be accessed, by children, due to regular maintenance.
