Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed there was no sandbox cover for the sandbox in the outdoor playground. Licensee said she will provide a cover.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture and equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One blind cord was accessible to children. This is a chocking concern. Staff made the cord inaccessible to children during the inspection
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the inspection licensing reviewed five children's files, of those one file did not contain the start date.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child a record for showing the date of enrolment.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: During the inspection, licensing reviewed five children's files, of those one file did not contain the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child, a record of the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection; 5 children, 1 staff, 1 support staff, the manager and 3 visitors from Fraser Valley Child Development center, were joined by licensing.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
The following was discussed:
Discussed labelling of spray bottles for cleaning.
Discussed systems for regular maintenance checks in the facility.
Discussed what items to include in the medical administration forms.
