Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Shaving cream which states on the container to keep out of reach of children was found under the sink accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to hazardous items.

STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Staff files were reviewed and the Managers Criminal Record Check was found to have expired March, 2019.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure valid Criminal Record Checks are in place.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The emergency kit consists of individual bags of supplies provided by families. Some of the food enclosed was found to be have recently expired.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure food is not expired to be able to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Daily Attendance Records were reviewed and found to be missing several departure times for the school age program.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure Daily Attendance Records are complete.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated June 7 there were 17 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the Licensee: Address contravened items.
