Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: A medical insurance plan number was not available for one child. The LO informed the manager that if a child does not have a BC Medical Insurance Plan number information for the families private medical insurance can be kept in the file.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a medical insurance plan number is available for all children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Information for an emergency contact was not available for one child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure contact information for an emergency contact is available for all children.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 10, 2022 there were seven children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
The following education was provided:
The Licensee must have evidence that all families have received a parent contract. If parent contracts are electronic a system to show who has received one must be available to the Licensing Officer.
If over the counter or prescribed medications (including lip balm) are used by staff, a medication consent form must be signed by parents.
Written permission to administer creams such as Penaten is required.
