Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: two staff did not have the educator or assistant certificate verified.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each educator or assistant certificate is verified by the system established and maintained by the ECE registry.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated October 28, 2020 there were 19 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool and Covid-19 Infection Control assessment was completed and a copy provided. This inspection and the risk assessment were written off site and a copy was provided to the facility.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Increased sanitization procedures
· Facility cleaning supplies and products
· COVID-19 prevention strategies were reviewed and discussed.
· Ensure that care plans and registration forms align
· Non-reportable incident logs to include what happened, to who (full name), where and when it happened, when the parents were notified and any follow up provided.
