Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was observed:
- the covering of the trampoline in the day-care classroom had a few tears in it and the springs were exposed
- the corners of the sleeping mats were torn and the sponge was exposed. The manager said that the mats are not used for sleeping
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the equipment in the facility is in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing reviewed 11 children's files and the following was observed:
- 2 children's files were missing an MSP number. Manager said that one of the families have recently moved from a different province and they might not yet have an MSP number.
1 child's file was missing a record of immunization.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the routine inspection 11 children's files were reviewed and 4 children's files were missing a date of enrollment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the routine inspection the licensing observed that the arrival and departure times on several days were missing on the daily sign in sheet in the day-care classroom.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the arrival and departure times are present.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: During the routine inspection licensing reviewed 11 children's files and 4 children's files were missing a photo or a digital photo.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 21, 2023 there were 21 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Temporary Placements and Exemptions
· During the routine inspection licensing noted the presence of two small trampolines in the preschool and daycare classrooms. Manager explained the use of trampoline by the children in care and licensing observed children's use of the trampoline during the inspection. Licensing recommends creating a policy regarding the trampoline by the children in care and presenting the policy to the parents of the children in care.
· Lead in the Water – flushing the pipes to remove any impurities before using the drinking water
