Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP). All areas were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-Surfaces not sanitized prior to use at snack time
-The bathroom contained storage of items such as cardboard, and plastic bags accessible to children, which prevents the easy sanitization of the bathroom areas.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee will consider a plan and provide a written response.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-DLSOP Safe Play Space – There is documentation of regular checks and maintenance of equipment
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will consider a plan and develop and outdoor checklist.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed:
-sanitizing wipes accessible to children on the bathroom counter. (Corrected during the inspection)
-a bucket full of water in the bathroom sink where young children had access. (this was corrected during the inspection)

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 3 children, and the licensee present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions. Licensing will review the written response.
As part of the routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool was completed, and a copy was provided to the facility along with the report. Copies of the inspection report and the Facility Risk Assessment Tool were reviewed, discussed, and provided to the Licensee/Manager.

Discussions:
· Licensing confirmed expiry dates for valid criminal record checks for all persons ordinarily present.
· Review of systems for maintaining repayment and prepayment files.
· Online reporting system
· Storage of items located in the nap space
· Active supervision
