Introduction

A scheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- A large plant in a heavy pot was located on the edge of the kitchen island counter. The concern is that the plant could fall and cause harm to a child in care.
- 2 electrical outlets in the main play area were uncovered and accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following accessible to children:
- Bleach and water solution was stored on top of low drawers by the change table. This is a repeat contravention.
- Medicated diaper cream was stored in an unlocked drawer by the change table. This is a repeat contravention.
- Lysol disinfectant, adult nasal spray and rubbing alcohol were stored close to the edge of the kitchen counter.
- Cleaning solution in a spray bottle was located on the kitchen floor.
- Insect repellant was located on a low shelf in the kitchen area.
All items were moved out of reach of children while Licensing was on site.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health or safety.

Comments

At this inspection dated June 04, 2020, there were 6 children and the Licensee present. The above noted contraventions were identified.
The following was discussed with the Licensee:
· COVID-19 prevention strategies
· Active supervision
· Facility policies and procedures

The Licensee is to correct the contraventions by the dates indicated, and provide a written response to licensing by June 10, 2020.

As part of the routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The inspection report was written off-site due to COVID-19 protocol – all details were reviewed with the Licensee prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment were e-mailed to the Licensee on June 04, 2020.
