Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area:
- Shovels leaning up against the wall which could potentially fall on children
- Uneven surface of black rubber floor mats placed on the ground in the outdoor play area, which could potentially be a tripping hazard while children are using the space.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that one child did not have their gender listed on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the child's gender is listed on file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that one child did not have their date of enrolment listed on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the child's date of enrolment is listed on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 10, 2022 there were 8 children and 2 staff present.The manager was on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures, which is to be reported within 24 hours. Child care staff are asked to call their Licensing Officer to make the report. If the Licensing Officer is unavailable, please call the Duty Line.
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Washroom procedures
- Continue checking the expiry date of items in the emergency supplies kit
