Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP). All care categories were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: A bottle of bleach was accessible in an unlocked cupboard in one of the Under 3 programs.
Corrective Action(s): Locks on the cupboards will be engaged at all times.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
The following items were discussed:
-The surfacing on the playground heats up quickly in the sun. Shade is required to keep the surface cool. Licensing also suggests spraying the surface with water on hot days in order to keep the surface cool,
-Static felt when touching metal surface in the outdoor play space. Licensing discussed ways of mitigating static which may be uncomfortable for staff and children.
-Labelling all medication to ensure quick access during emergency.
-Age and developmentally appropriate use of chair belt buckles.
-Dating care plans for the purposes of annual review.
Additional Information:
This report was written off site and is unsigned. The discussion points and the contravention were discussed with the Manager before Licensing's departure.
