Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection it was observed that in the nap space there was a plastic grocery bag a children's level, toy storage, and a tall shelf that was not anchored to the wall. Licensee removed some items during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Sample of 5 children's records. 1 record did not contain record of the gender of one child in care.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 8 children, and the manager
At this inspection the above contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a written corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Discussed the use of the nap space for storage of toys, and reviewing the playpen manufacturer instructions for intended use.
Licensing reviewed COVID BCCDC measures in place. It was discussed that children can have use of space in a licensed child care facility during COVID. Children are not expected to be in chairs to ensure social distancing, and giving children the choice to move about the room, while playing, or reading books.
