Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing reviewed four staff records and one staff did not have a criminal record check. Manager stated that an application has been submitted for the criminal record check and that she is also aware that criminal record check has been completed through another agency for this staff. Manager informed licensing that this staff will not be left alone with children till criminal record check results are received. Licensing reviewed the CRC application.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that all employees have a valid criminal record check upon employment.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 16, 2021 there were 32 children and seven staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the manager:
· Bottles of solution must be clearly labelled with the contents.
· Storage of items on shelves to prevent them from falling over in an event of an earthquake
· Validations of certificates
· Bathroom maintenance
· Spring maintenance of outdoor play area

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on June 16, 2021. Total time includes writing report in office.
