Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:

· Licensing
· Physical Facility
· Staffing
· Policies and Procedures
· Care and Supervision
· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Program
· Records and Reporting

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice.

Observed Violations
No violations were found during the inspection.

Comments

The following was discussed today:

The diapering procedure;
The revised bathroom policy;
The off-site play space policy. According to information shared, the policy is being followed;
How to keep a record of character reference check if only a list of names and phone numbers has been provided;
Incidents involving children when a parent would be notified immediately;
Section 57(2)(g) of the CCLR;
Information to obtain from parents if the time medication is to be administered is unknown; symptoms at a minimum;
Safety measures if a standup-fan was to be used; ensuring blades inaccessible and no risk of fan falling on a child;
Additional safety measures that can be taken to prevent children from leaving the facility on their own;
Safety measures that can be taken if a water kettle was to be used. Licensing also advised that hot beverages need to be inaccessible to the children.

Licensing would like to thank the licensee and staff for their time and assistance.
