Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The following was observed:
-the TV in the main play area is not secured and unstable when pulled.
-an electrical outlet outside is exposed and accessible to children.
-a toy storage bench is located next to the railing on the deck with the potential for a child to climb on.
-corked full wine bottles are accessible to children and stored in a nap area where children are sleeping on a mat.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided by
-Ensuring the TV can not tip and is stable.
-covering electrical outlets
-ensuring children can not climb on the bench next to the railing.
-move wine to be inaccessible to children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19030 - CCLR s.55(2)(a) - A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.
Observation: The Licensing Officer reviewed the non-reportable incident log and determined 2 reportable incidents were not reported.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure Licensing is notified within 24 hours if a child is involved or may have been involved in a reportable incident.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated April 8, 2019 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take corrective action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
