209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A plastic lid with rodent poison was found in a storage cabinet in the front service area. Operator placed poison in facility himself.
Corrective Action(s): Only a professional pest control operator can place rodent poison/bait in a facility. Placing rodent poison/bait in a facility may result in contamination of food, food contact surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Container of rodent poison/bait was discarded at the time of inspection.

Observation: Rodent droppings were found in the front service area and in the main kitchen.
Corrective Action(s): Contact a professional pest control operator to service the facility and eliminate pest infestation and any potential entry points for pests. Ensure all foods are stored in pest proof containers with tight fitting lids at the end of each night.

Observation: Rodent droppings were found mainly in the front service area, cooler unit used to store dry goods, and a few droppings in the back kitchen area.
Corrective Action(s): Clean all areas affected by rodent droppings and sanitize all affected areas using a 1:10 bleach solution.

Comments

-Walk-in cooler was at 2C.
-Walk-in freezer was at -18C.
-Prep cooler was at 4C (top and bottom).
-Upright cooler was at 4C.
-Front sweets cooler was at 4C.
-Ice cream freezer was at -20C.
-Chemical dishwasher had a final rinse of 50ppm chlorine on the dish surface (minimum 50ppm required for proper sanitizing).
-Chlorine sanitizer spray bottles labelled and tested at 100ppm.
-Handwash stations accessible and supplied with hot and cold running water, liquid hand soap, and single use paper towels.
-Potato press was found to be clean and sanitary (blades and hand piece).
-Hot potentially hazardous foods cooled in shallow containers. Foods were less than 4C. One ice wand available on-site for cooling foods rapidly.
-Washroom clean and well maintained.
-Operator FoodSafe Level 1 valid until December 4, 2020.
