Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The Licensee stated that she has not created an active play or screen use policy. A copy of the Director of Licensing Standard of Practice Active Play was provided to the Licensee.
Corrective Action(s): Please create an active play and screen use policy.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 2 of 5 children's files did not contain a medical insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that each child has a record of medical insurance plan number.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 1 of 5 children's files did not contain the name of phone number of an emergency contact.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children have a record of an emergency contact.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated February 25, 2019 there were 3 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and submit a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the written response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
