Comments

Inspection of cranberry receiving plant with EHS Specialist and Station Manager during operating hours.
Outside premises - bait traps are placed around the building.
Inside premises - traps are placed along the walls.
Equipment, graders and conveyers are clean and good repair.
Shovels to scoop fruit are labelled and color coated depending on stage of the process.
Hair nets and hand sanitizers are a required prior to entry of the processing area.
Minimal to no direct handling of fruit.
Staff washrooms are supplied with liquid soap and paper towels in dispensers.
Wash water for berries is recycled for use as per facility's process and requirements to meet consumption and discharge guidelines of the GVRD.
Additional fresh water is occasionally added to recycled water as necessary and as directed by the Station Manager.
Berries are rinsed further downstream with potable water.
Berries leaving this facility are labeled and not intended for consumption; further processed downstream in receiving facilities.
Therefore, no sanitizer is used on equipment and contact surfaces.
Wooden crates and bins are stored outside.

Grading/sampling room:
Drywall, baseboards and wall/floor junctions show deterioration, peeling and potential mold growth from humidity and temperature changes over time.
- Recommend that all walls be repaired or lined with cleanable, non-porous and durable surfaces to aid cleaning.
Cabinetry in this room also have chipped corners, edges that expose plywood underneath.
- Recommend these be repaired or replaced to prevent further deterioration and to aid cleaning.
Sinks are not large enough to fit plastic bins needing to be rinsed.
- Recommend these be larger to fit the largest size of bin needing to be rinsed.

Lab room is clean and in good repair.
Berries are graded and analyzed here for shape, size, color, etc.
Samples are separated and kept in labelled bags.
Bags can be stored up to 2 years to allow tracking for recall purposes.
Berries and water samples are sent to third party lab for further analysis.

No signs of pests at the time of inspection.
