Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The black mat in the 3-5 room was in disrepair. The corners of the mat were rolling over which can be a tripping hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the supplies and furniture is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: The hot water in the 3-5 bathroom recorded at 55 degree Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that any heated water accessible to children is no more than 49 degree Celsius.

STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one of the employees.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the record of the employees work history is maintained in their file.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Fire drill log is not maintained showing fire drill is implemented at least once a month
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that fire drill log is maintained on the monthly basis and each employee is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Staff/manager has not practiced implementing the emergency evacuation plan at least once each year.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that emergency plan is practiced and the annual log is maintained,

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: 1 of the 4 children in the IT classroom was not signed in on the attendance record.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all the children are signed in and out on the attendance record

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
· At the inspection dated December 8, 2021 there were 7 children in 3-5 classroom, 4 children each in 2 I/T classroom, 6 staff and the manager were on site.
· At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
· Discussed storing of emergency supplies where they are readily accessible to mitigate and recover from emergency.
· Discussed cleaning of the storage room.
