Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted on July 12, 2021 to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon entering the facility from the back yard,Licensing went to close the screen door and it fell off it's tracks posing a fall hazard.Licensing also observed the wood on the planter boxes to be coming apart exposing sharp nails.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the community care facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: Upon inspection, the side gate of the facility was wobbly and easily unlatched when pushed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of the children.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Upon inspection,there was no food or water or other emergency equipment other than foil blankets, in the emergency supply bag for the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility has emergency supplies available to help recover in the case of an emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Upon review of the attendance records, 3 children had not been signed in on 1 day.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure arrival and departure times are recorded.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: Upon review of the children's files, one file did not have a care plan developed in consultation with a parent.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care plan is developed with the parent.

Comments

At the inspection dated July 12, 2021 there were 3 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response.Licensing will review the response. As part of this Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Licensee and Licensing stated that the report will be emailed to the facility.
