Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Cleaning supplies were stored in an unlocked cupboard in the washroom used by the children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to hazardous substances.

STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: Criminal record check clearance letters expired for 3 individuals.
Corrective Action(s): Please initiate renewal.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Record of the fire drill practices have been not maintained since the beginning of this year.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure record of the fire drills.

Comments

At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing provided a date for addressing the contraventions and is requesting a written response by Nov 1, 2022 advising on compliance with CRC's and cleaning supply storage.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The information contained in the report was discussed with the Licensee and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing advised that copies of the report and risk assessment would be emailed to the facility.
