Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11180 - CCLR s.16(4)(a) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.
Observation: Licensing observed older ( over 2 years old) children were sitting in high chair for eating. Discussed age appropriate furniture for children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure material and equipment accessible for children is suitable for age and development of the children.

Licensee stated that they will add more tables and chairs on the floor.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: The following hazards were observed during inspection; cleaning supplies stored under the washroom sink; heat vent in circle time area was exposing sharp parts. Children could put their fingers in the open vent.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to anything that may be hazardous to the health and safety of children in care.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually. Secondary emergency exit door that leads to garage was locked from other side. Additionally, yard gate was also locked from outside. Discussed the intent and potential risk when emergency exits are not accessible to evacuate children safety.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to follow the emergency plan and procedures that was approved to respond and recover from any emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: There was 6 out of 7 children signed in today at the time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children records are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 14, 2022 there were 7 children in attendance with 2 staff.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by March 25, 2022
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.
As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
