Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: A record of work history was not on file for one out of the two staff.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that staff have a current resume on file.

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Immunization status was not on file for 1 out of the two staff.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff immunization records are on file.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was due to be serviced in 2020.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fire extinguisher is serviced and ready to use in an event of an emergency.

Comments

At the inspection dated Mar. 02, 2021 there were 5 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include providing a written response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
- Bound notebook for minor incident logs
- Snack preparation
- COVID-19 policy and procedures
- Playing outdoors for longer periods of time
