Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed items stored in the bathroom including mop and bucket This prevents the ability to sanitize the bathroom effectively. The manager said she will remove and store the items elsewhere.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection licensing observed:
-An electrical outlet that was uncovered, with an extension cord and exposed outlets accessible to children in care.
-An electrical cord hanging from the wall providing risk for entanglement.
-Vacuum stored in the bathroom with a loose cord.
-Can of Air freshener stored in the bathroom accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object of substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: One of two bathroom sink water temperature tested at 51 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 25 children, 1 staff and the manager on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
