Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following within the children's main activity area:
- a full size ladder leaning against the wall, posing a potential risk of injury if it were to fall; removed by staff during the inspection
- a large, retracted heavy projector screen placed on a low window ledge above a children's seating area
- a suspended, unsecured string of lights within a partially covered reading area, outside of direct staff sightlines, which could pose a potential risk of entanglement
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19250 - CCLR s.58(2)(a) - The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: Care plan not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to develop a care plan for any child requiring extra support.

Comments

During this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The following was discussed with a staff:
- Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space
The information contained in the report was discussed with staff and the report and risk assessment were written off-site. Licensing emailed a copy of the report and the risk assessment to the facility.
