Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection of the toddler room, 8 mats covered in sheets were stacked one on top of each other touching and promoting cross contamination.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is promoted at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: During the inspection of the physical facility it was noted that two boats are available for the children to play on. One one of the boat several nails were sticking out and could pose a risk to the children in care. This is a repeat contravention from 2018.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure equipment is free of hazards and in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection, 12 random children's files were viewed and one child was missing the enrollment date.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are completed.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 10, 2022 there were 53 children, 9 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Verification and documentation of the reference letters for staff members
· Active Supervision
