Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: -Couch in the play area's vinyl cover was showing signs of chipping away, making it difficult to sanitize. The manager said she will be ordering a cover for the couch today.
-The window trim was missing below one window, and some signs of damage to the wall below was visible.
-One cupboard had a broken hinge which provided a potential pinching hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: -One of two bathroom's wall heater cover was off, and provides access to the heat coils while children are using the toilet.
-The cupboard under the sink was unlatched and contained cleaning supplies and plastic garbage bags accessible to children during play.
-An air purifier was stored on top of a shelf and was not secured to the wall, providing risk of falling on a child.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 22 children, 1 staff, 1 support staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Hand Hygiene, and and food provisions education provided
