Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulationand the applicable Director of Licensing Standards of Practice. All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During today's inspection the following was noted: electrical cords in both program rooms were accessible to children; holiday lights were strung in the group child care (30 months to school age) room and a section was not secured.
Corrective Action(s): Licensing discussed with the Manager these observations and ways in which they can be corrected.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed 2 medium sized eye bolts inserted on the lower board in the group child care (under 36 months) outdoor play area. The eye bolts are in place to secure tarps when needed. If a child were to fall onto these items there is the potential the child will sustain an injury. Licensing noted several areas of rust in both service type outdoor play areas (bolts on climbing structure, blue chairs, hasp on door to the shed). Rust is a potential health hazard

The outdoor mud kitchen in the group child care (under 36 months program) there are areas that are loose. There is a board on the climber in the group child care (30 months to school age) that is loose.

In the group child care (under 36 months) program children's washroom there is a cupboard door located under the adult sink that is broken and in need of repair. In the group child care (36 months to school age) room there is a cupboard on the storage unit that has a broken hinge.
Corrective Action(s): Some of the above noted items had been identified by the Manager and they are in the process of having them repaired. Ensure all items noted here are repaired or replaced.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Staff have a system to document when they have conducted their monthly fire drills and annual emergency drill. Upon review of this document licensing noted there was no entry for the months of September and October 2021 for a fire drill.
Corrective Action(s): The Manager confirmed monthly fire drills had been conducted but were not recorded. Ensure after each drill staff complete the record.

Comments

At today's inspection the above noted contraventions were identified and any action required by the Manager/Licensee is included. As part of this routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic this report was reviewed with the Manager at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site (time spent writing the report is not include on this report) and a copy was sent to the Manager.
