Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #KINE-B8YTJ6 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: 1. During inspection of the fire extinguisher, there was no confirmation that the extinguisher had been serviced
2. During inspection of emergency supplies, it was found that the food has expired and is not sufficient for the numbers of children and staff.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced each year. Ensure there is enough supplies in place to recover from an emergency.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: During observation of the washroom routine, it was found that children are using the same towel to dry hands. The teacher explained that they had tried to implement a single use towel system but the children all just end up using the same towel.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not all use the same towel to dry hands. Single use paper towels or implement a system where children do not share the same towel.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19140 - CCLR s.57(2)(h)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation: During inspection of the facility it was found that one child required medication that the parent had not provided permission and instructions in writing for.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all medication to be administered to children have special instructions documented by the parent in writing.

Comments

At the inspection dated December 12, 2019 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. This facility has 8 children currently registered.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here.
As part of this routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The manager discussed a plan to place toy shelves in front of the pillars to prevent children from injuring themselves.
