Services provided: nails (manicure, pedicure, foot bath, acrylic nails with gel nail color, foot massage), waxing, and eyelash extensions.
Nails
- Critical items - Credo/pedicure razor blade - is discarded into a sharps container.
Do not pre-load the razor into the holder. Obtain a new blade just before each use and discard immediately after use.
- Semi critical items (cuticle nippers, cuticle pushers, nail cutters, metal files, pedicure blade holder, drill bits if not covered in disposable sandpaper) - using high level disinfectant but there is no expiry date on the bottle label. Manager advises it is changed every 2 days and timed for every 20 minutes.
- Metal foot files are disinfected with 70% isopropyl spray - see above.
- Foot bath is covered with disposable single use plastic liner. It is then cleaned. See above regarding disinfection of foot bath. Note that the bubbler is not used.
- Non critical items - barbicide and low level hydrogen peroxide can be used on sinks, chairs etc.
- Disposable items - absorbent files, drill bit sandpaper covers, toe separators (do not re-use), buffers.
Note: The disinfectant cleaner with hydrogen peroxide is only a low level disinfectant and cannot be used for disinfecting semi critical items. Label indicates is to be used full strength.
*** Train staff on proper and safe use of all chemicals.
Waxing
- Using room #2 for waxing which has its own hand sink.
- Non critical disposable wooden spatulas and waxing strips discarded after use.
- Wax appears clean.
- Non critical items (tweezers for hair removal) using any low level disinfectant. Store in a clean container.
- Semi critical items (tweezers if used for ingrown hair) - use a high level disinfectant such as your CS20.
Eyelash Extensions
- Using room #1 only for this service. Contact Fraser Health if this is a business separate from Lily Nails.
- Eyelash technician (BL) provided electronic copy of training certificate. Only those trained in eyelash extensions can provide this service. Please provide copy of certificate to Fraser Health.
- Eyelash glue labelling as per Health Canada requirements (for professional use, when to see physician, warning, etc.) - good.
- Room #1 used for eyelash extensions has hand sink in room. Liquid soap and single use hand towels provided. See above regarding hot water.
- Semi critical items - Tweezers and implements are disinfected with a high level disinfectant (20 minutes undiluted) - good.
- Non critical items - Treatment bed is disinfected, covered in disposable plastic wrap, covered in disposable paper between clients.
General
- Infection Control Plan - Provide an updated infection control plan that provides clear instructions to staff on how to clean and disinfect all implements, equipment, and surfaces.
- Nail services area has a hand sink with hot/cold water, liquid soap and single use hand towels.
- Treatment room 1 - used for eyelash extensions - see above.
- Treatment room 2 - used for waxing. Has sink in room with hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use paper hand towels. * Repair soap dispenser so that it can be easily used.
- Laundry - washing machine in house. For drying - use hot dry cycle on machine.
- Washroom for customers and staff - hand washing sink has hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use hand towels.
- Lunchroom for staff.
- Washroom has sink with hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use hand towels.
Corrective actions reviewed with Manager on site.
Copy of report to be emailed to owner/manager at spa email address.
