Introduction

An unscheduled Routine Inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: During inspection licensing reviewed five staff files, of those one staff file contained a criminal record check that was not site specific.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to obtain a criminal record check that is site specific for each employee.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 17 children, and 3 staff on site.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Children had no access to the storage area during the inspection, however, the folding wall was showing signs of needing repair. When asked, staff said there was a plan to repair or replace the wall.
Discussed the practice of ensuring that a record is made of when staff character references are contacted, completing the screening process.
