Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). In response to the current Covid 19 pandemic this inspection focused on the following areas:
-Physical Facility
-Health and Hygiene
-Records and Reporting

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: During the inspection a rusty tap and sharp and rusty drain was observed in the washroom. This could cause a potential health hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BHHPGV
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is free from hazards.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the inspection six children's records were reviewed. One children's record was missing a date of enrolment. This was corrected during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: During the inspection 6 children's records were reviewed. Three children's records were missing a photograph.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children's records are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 25, 2020 there was 1 child, 2 staff and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please send a written response to Licensing addressing how you have corrected the above noted contraventions by July 20, 2020. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following was reviewed/discussed with the Manager:

· Information sent out to the Manager regarding the following: sanitization/disinfection, social distancing, hand washing and health and wellness policy.
· The coronavirus COVID-19 public health guidance for child care settings
· Posting the COVID-19 policy, as a requirement of The Centre for Disease Control and Worksafe BC
· Removing items with a drug identification number (DIN) or a natural product number (NPN) from the first aid kit. A signed permission form from the
parent or guardian is required prior to application.

The following resource was given to the Manager:

· Resource Package for Child Care facilities COVID-19 prevention

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Manager at the inspection. The inspection report and the risk assessment were completed at the Burnaby Health Protection office. The report was written in .5 hours and this is included in the report. A copy of these documents were sent to the Manager.
