Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During inspection of the outdoor play area, it was found that the shed located in the yard had siding that had fallen off and was in need of repair. A broken toy was also found in the yard.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all furniture, equipment and fixtures are in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: During review of children's files it was found that one child with severe allergies did not have a care plan outlining a course of action should the child ingest any of the foods they are allergic to. The licensee was able to talk about the medications provided by the parents but there was no plan to follow if the medication was administered.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure each child requiring extra support has a plan in place with the courses of action recommended by health care professionals documented.

Comments

During this inspection, there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The Licensing Officer met with the manager and discussed the following:
Using appropriate approved sleep equipment for children during nap time.

This report was written off site; therefore, no signatures were captured at this time. Time reflects onsite visit plus report writing time. A copy of this document will be provided to the facility via email.
