Introduction

A scheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance. A COVID-19 risk screening assessment was completed for the facility prior to this inspection.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: - Licensing observed the following located in the carport at the entrance of the facility, accessible to children: A tall ladder was standing upright, leaning against the wall, posing a fall hazard.
- Licensing noted a large hole in the upstairs wooden deck which is used as an emergency exit. The hole poses a risk to children in care. A photograph was provided by the Manager.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Comments

At this inspection dated August 19, 2020, there were 3 children, 1 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. As part of this inspection, a COVID-19 Infection Control Assessment was completed, and a copy was provided.
The following was discussed with the licensee:
· COVID-19 prevention strategies
· Fire drills and emergency management
· Outdoor play space
· Physical facility, including cleaning practices

The Manager is to correct the contravention by the dates indicated, and provide a written response to Licensing.

As part of the routine inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
The inspection report was written off-site due to COVID-19 protocol – all details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment were e-mailed to the Manager on August 19, 2020.
