Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: The Manager's name was not posted.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the Manager's name is posted in a prominent place in the facility.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: The fire drill was not recorded for April and May 2023 in the School Age program upstairs. The Manager said that the fire drill is practiced monthly but staff must have forgotten to record the drills.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the fire drill is practiced and recorded monthly.

Comments

At this inspection there were 57 children, 13 staff, 1 practicum student, the Licensee contact and the Manager present. At this inspection, the contraventions above were identified. The Manager will send Licensing a written response by June 28, 2023 addressing the contraventions and Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following was discussed/reviewed with the Manager:
- Licensing suggested using the FH registration form as this form contains all required information as per CCLR
- Care plans to be reviewed annually with parents, staff, any health care professional requested by parent
- Emergency supplies and system in place to ensure food is not expired
- Staff references must be verified and evidence of this verification to be included in file

The contents of this report was discussed with the Manager and a copy was emailed on June 14, 2023.
