Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11130 - CCLR s.15(3) - A licensee providing a care program to any child younger than 36 months of age must provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity area.
Observation: A nap area is observed to be limited in space due to stored items, 1 playpen noted in use during the inspection , the remaining children ( some under the age of 36 months ) were napping within the main activity area.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure sufficient space is available within the nap area for children under 36 months of age.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: Licensee holds a current ECE Certificate however the Verification process has not been completed , Reviewed the step with the licensee. .
Corrective Action(s): please ensure validation occurs for any educator or educator assistant working within the facility.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17130 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Licensee provides snacks, temperature within the fridge recorded at 10 degrees Celsius
Corrective Action(s): please ensure food served to children is safely stored at a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius

Comments

Summary of Inspection- At the inspection dated March 4, 2019 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Licensee to provide a written response by the arranged time of March 15, 2019 at which time Licensing will confirm receipt and respond with any further information that may be required.
Discussed during the inspection:
Visitors within the upper floor of the home would not have access to the children attending on the lower level.
Products to be used as specified within the directions as listed as some carry a 10 minute contact time and clear rinse.
Licensee may provide transportation although has not to date , please ensure a transportation policy is created should you wish to expand programming to include this service to families.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
