Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Several bed mats and bedding were touching each other in the nap room. To stop the spread of communicable diseases mats and bedding need to be separate.
Corrective Action(s): The manager will ensure beds are separate.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: A mouse trap was observed behind the toilet in the children's bathroom and disposable floor wipes were accessible to children in a bathroom draw.
Corrective Action(s): The staff person said they will remove these items.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Six children were present during this inspection. Two children had not been signed in.
Corrective Action(s): The manager will ensure children are signed in when they arrive at the facility.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated April 17, 2024 there were six children and two staff present. The manager arrived at the facility during this inspection. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and a staff person and written on site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
The following were discussed:
Ensuring the name and contact information of either a doctor or a medical clinic is available for all children.
Ensuring the gate to the facility driveway is not propped open with a wood block during childcare operating hours.
Ensuring all diaper creams have a current expiry dates and if a cream is no longer being used it needs to be returned to the family.
