Introduction

An Unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: DLSOP Safe Play Space – Spaces (i.e. holes or openings) are smaller than 9 cm (3.5 inches) or larger than 23 cm (9 inches). This poses a risk for potential entrapment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: a table located in the main activity.
Corrective Action(s): Please replace or repair the table. Manager removed the table while licensing was on site and replaced it with a new table from storage.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced annually.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: No policy and procedure was available to guide staff in the facility operation related to care and supervision.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure Policy and procedures are available at all times at the facility to guide staff in the facility operation related to care and supervision.

Comments

At the inspection on September 15, 2021 there were 5 children and 2 staff present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site and a copy was provided.
