Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the spray bottles used for disinfecting were not replenished today. Staff mentioned that it was a busy morning as one staff arrived later than it's usual start time. Bottles were replenished with disinfectant solution during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a system is in place to daily replenish the bottles with disinfectant solution .

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following were accessible in an under the sink cupboard in one of the children’s washroom and an under the sink cupboard in one classroom:
·Toilet plunger
·Toilet cleaning brush
·Several unused black garbage bags
.Plastic bags
All these items were made inaccessible during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

Comments

At the inspection dated March 1, 2021 there were 35 children and nine staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility and to the Away playarea.

The following were discussed with the manager:

· Bottles of sanitizing and disinfectant solution must be clearly labelled with the contents.
· Contents of the Earthquake Emergency Kit and First aid kit
· Staff records
· Care plan for children requiring additional support

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on March 1,2021.
