Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During the inspection of the facility and conversations with the manager it was noted that the facility does not yet have an emergency preparedness kit for all children. Education was provided about the items needed in the kit. Transportation to the emergency location of the infant/toddlers as well as the annually practice of the emergency preparedness drill was discussed with the manager
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure you have an emergency kit for all children and staff to prepare, mitigate, respond and recover in any emergency.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13040 - CCLR s.56(1)(a) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (a) written policies and procedures for the safe release of children.
Observation: During the inspection all policies and procedures were reviewed. It was noted that a safe release policy was not available to the staff or parents.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a Safe Release policy is created and available to all staff and parents.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: During the routine inspection eight (8) children's files were reviewed and one (1) child's file was missing an MSP number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: During the routine inspection eight (8) children's files were reviewed and one (1) child's file was missing an enrollment date.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: During the routine inspection, eight (8) children's files were reviewed and one (1) child's file was missing a doctor's name and phone number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 29, 2022 there were 7 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program.
· Maintaining the back yard regularly (grass cutting) to provide a safe play space for infants and toddlers.
· Protection around the garden rocks and active supervision around the garden rocks.
· Spreading the mats for nap time around so they avoid touching and to avoid cross contamination.
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
