Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #EGAU-AW6P4L have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a tarp in the backyard that was draped over a large patch of soil and water had accumulated in the middle. Mesh fencing surrounded the tarp but the water was still accessible as the fence was approximately 2 feet high and could be easily bent. Licensing took a photo and advised that a copy can be produced upon request.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times. The licensee advised that the children will not be playing in the backyard until this has been addressed.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed a knife block with knives stored on the countertop that was accessible to the children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to hazardous objects when they are in care.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated Jan 30, 2019 there were 7 children and the licensee present.

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing provided dates for compliance and is requesting for a written response by February 4, 2019 advising how the contraventions have been addressed.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
