Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a ladder standing vertically against the house in the back yard with the potential to fall.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the Ladder is stored so it will not tip or fall.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: The trampoline located in the back yard is showing signs of wear and tear, including some exposed springs, and broken padding. The Licensee stated that sometimes the older children used to use the trampoline and they haven't used it in a year. The Licensee stated that the trampoline will be off limits to the daycare children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the equipment is in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 29, 2019 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
