Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection of the entrance to the facility, there was approximately 8 bags of dog feces, one bag was open,just outside the door of the facility where children walk.
Upon inspection of the outdoor play space where the outdoor toys were sitting, there was boards with screws sticking out, 1 long pet leash and a lawnmower accessible to the children.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Upon observation of the indoor eating area there was one cabinet that was over 5 feet in height that was not anchored to the wall.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure large furniture is sturdy and free from hazards.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: Upon inspection of the back yard play space, the gate separating vehicles and garden tools was not able to close.
In the back corner of the yard, there is a gap in the fence,approximately one foot in length that poses a hazard to the children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the entire outdoor area is enclosed in a manner to ensure children are free from harm.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Upon inspection, there was hairspray, moisturizer spray, detangler, rotating fan-unsupervised and a bag full of plastic bags accessible to the children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 14 2019 there were 6 children and 1staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.Licensee will provide licensing with a written response as to the corrective actions taken to addressthe above noted contraventions. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
