Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP).

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: During a review of the fire drill records, Manager informed Licensing for the months of June and July 2022 fire drills were not practiced.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded monthly

MEDICATION: 16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed that medication for two children was not accessible to the manager. This was corrected during the inspection..
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that medication is readily accessible and available at all times.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation: Care plans were not available for two children.
Corrective Action(s): A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 3,2022 there were four children and manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by August 5,2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:

· Licensing discussed challenges of storing photos of children on the facility cell phone ‘as the only source’ to locate photos of children in an emergency.
· As per CCLR s.14(4)(a) licensee must have a sturdy surface for changing diapers
· As per CCLR 56(1)(f) licensee must ensure a log is kept of minor incidents, accidents, illnesses and unexpected events.
· When not in use, outdoor garden hose to be inaccessible to children.
· Fridge temperature to measure between 0-4 degree Celsius
· Contents of the storage room must be inaccessible to children at all times
· Ensure attendance records clearly indicate whether children are absent, present and times of arrival & departure.
· Community Care Facility license to be available for inspections.

The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager over the phone prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on 4 August 2022.
