Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The diaper change pad showed areas where cracks exposed the material below. The licensee stated they have ordered a new one.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation:
-Storage of food items without a lid, located on a shelf with art supplies.
-Dishes were being washed in a sink where the diaper change pad was stored next to the sink.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to instruct children in and practice the rules of health and hygiene.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Of nine files reviewed, three files were missing immunization status. Three files were missing medical insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep record showing the medical insurance plan number, and immunization status.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Of nine facility files reviewed three files were missing doctor name and number.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child, a record showing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 8 children, one staff, one support staff, an ECE student, and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
