Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP). All care categories were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 4 staff files; CRC for 1 staff was not site specific
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that staff files are complete

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed 4 staff files; 2 did not have proof of validation

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Fire drill records were reviewed; January and February 2024 were missing.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure that fire drills are practiced and recorded every month.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 8 children's files; 1 missing the medical practitioner's name and telephone number.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee must ensure children's files are complete.

At the inspection dated March 7, 2024, there were 8 children in care with 2 staff.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
